This was the headline in the Bundaberg Paper on 1st August as the Rumruckers Over 35’s Rugby Team depart Brisbane to come to Norfolk to once again support our beautiful island.
You may have seen the wanted posters in local shops and heard the boys on the radio that they had decided to shave their beards for a Norfolk Charity. Four Men “Irish, Tinkerbell, Forrest and Agent 86” arrived on the island and went straight into fundraising mode.
The Bundaberg Rumruckers have been coming to Norfolk Island since 2007 and every time raising funds for different charities on Norfolk Island. It was decided that funds raised would be donated to the Sunshine Club, a charity that supports everyone.
The Shave would be carried out at the Closing Ceremony on Friday Night, this gave the men all week to collect donations. Forrest even decided if they could raise enough money he would shave his head as well.
As money was raised Forrest started to shave parts of his head, we saw the sides go first, then a convict arrow was shaved into the back of his head, as the week went on the hair got less. Lastly at the Closing Ceremony held at Rawson Hall all the beards and the rest of Forrest’s hair was gone. We wish to thank the Bundaberg Rumruckers for their support of our island home and announce that in excess of $3000.00 was raised for the Sunshine Club.
Thankyou everyone for your donations and a special thank you to Gae and Jill for shaving the beards.
